Group asks Ondo women to rise against sexual abuse, domestic violence

A non-governmental organisation in Ondo state, MK Brand, has condemned sexual abuse and domestic violence against the female folks in the society.

The organization noted that the sexual abuse against women should be given strict attention by the government at all levels in order to eradicate the menace.

The members of the group spoke at the weekend in Akure during a peaceful walk to rally against the vices which is now becoming an ills of the society.

Tomilola Owoeye, a female activist and member of the organization disclosed that they decided to embark on the rally to educate the people mostly women to voice out against all forms sexual abuse and domestic violence.

Owoeye noted that it is totally wrong to subject the women or ladies to abuse adding all issues of abuse should be reported to the government agencies.

“We are telling people it is bad to beat their wives or force them to have sex, do not rape the girl child, it is not good.

“Most of these men indulging in these acts do not know it’s bad, we are telling them that it is a crime.

“Those that are being abused should speak out, so that the government can help, because there are agencies against domestic violence” she added.

The founder of the M.K BRAND, Olumide Adebayo also expressed sadness over the rampant abuses on women by men in the society.

He further asked the females to speak out in the face of injustice in the hands of their male counterparts.

“Although, the way you dress is also the way you are addressed” he said.

Ahmed Kehinde, a facilitator with the organization also urged mothers to build intimacy with their children especially their girl child.

She added that doing so would help the child to learn about the ills in the society and how not to involve and overcome.

Kehinde later charged government to be available to their responsibilities noting that non=profit organization should not be left in the game alone.

Earlier, the female director in charge of the Kick Against Molestation Initiative, Moyinoluwa Adeshipe, appealed to the government at all levels to rise up and come to the aid of victims of abuse and domestic violence.

“I have been sharing my story with people which has actually helped a great deal, now a lot of them are ready to share their stories too,” she added.
