Gov Bindo assents to law 3 bills on criminal justice

Three Bills on Administration of criminal Justice Law, Penal code law and Proceeds of crime law sponsored by the Lawmaker representing Mubi North, Hon Shehu Mohammed Sani have been assented to Law by the Governor of Adamawa state. Gov Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindo who assented the bills into law Monday morning as a special guest of honour at the late Hon Justice Buba Ardo Memmorial Lecture and celebration of this year’s Law Week, urged members of the Bar to take advantage of the new laws to protect ordinary people. He also said the bills are very important and stand strong in the practice of legal profession, aims at protecting the rights of citizens of the State. The Bills which are historic in breaking the record of its existence since the day of Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto who was said to have implemented it till now that another record has been set my Governor Bindo to break. According to Shehu Sani that the law for Proceeds of Crime Law is the first of its kind in Nigeria, the law seeks to replace assets of the common man in the event of a criminal case. The second and third are the Penal Code and the Administration of Criminal Justice Law which again addresses the needs of the common man and ensures that he or she is not detained arbitrarily but given a fair deal by the law. He noted that his administration respects the rule of law without which all his projects that dot the landscape of Adamawa State would not have been possible.
