FUNAAB students urged to be IT compliant

The Director, Centre for Innovation and Strategy in Learning and Teaching (CISLT) of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, Dr. Olusegun Folorunso, has charged students to be Information Technology (IT) compliant, as this would be of immense benefit to them after graduating from the university.
Dr. Folorunso made the call during presentation of certificates to certified students of the CISCO IT Essentials Course, held recently at the Information Communication Technology Resource Centre (ICTREC) of the university.
Congratulating the recipients for taking the bold step, Dr. Folorunso, who was the Chairman at the occasion, charged the students that the certification was just the beginning for them, describing the IT world as large, complex and interesting.
He congratulated Dr. Olutayo Ajayi, the Head of ICTREC for the achievement, noting that the Centre should endeavour to involve relevant departments in the university such as Computer Science, Engineering and Physics, among others, in order to motivate their students to be part of the training. According to him, this would enable them to be certified as CISCO IT Essentials graduates.
Dr. Folorunso also advised that ICTREC should create more awareness for the programme, in order to attract more students, while reiterating that with the recent Federal Government’s promotion of self-reliance among its citizens, students can be employers of labour with the knowledge they had gained so far with the certification
On his part, Dr. Ajayi described the CISCO certificate training as a money-spinning venture for the university, as he informed that ICTREC-FUNAAB was looking forward to partnering with the CISCO Support Centre, to enable them train FUNAAB staff.
He added that the Centre was looking forward to making students in the Department of Computer Science offer the course in addition to their regular course, so that they would acquire the certification before they graduate, and charged the certified students to inform others about the programme.
Earlier, the programme instructor, Mr. Essienekpo Emmanuel, said that the programme was about introducing the students to the IT world. He noted that the essence of the academy was to help the students by introducing them to workshop safety, tools, computer components and its functions among others.
Reacting to their certification, two of the students, Olayinka Babayeju and Elijah Oludare, thanked God for successfully completing the course with the hope that it would open further opportunities for them in life while calling for more awareness on the existence of CISCO Academy in FUNAAB.
