Fubara can’t decide for Rivers whether or not to return as Gov – Residents
By Agency Report
Some residents of Rivers State have criticized suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara for declaring that he is not desperate to return to office. Speaking to The Guardian newspaper Monday in Port Harcourt, the respondents flayed the embattled governor for apparently giving up on democratic principles – insisting Fubara cannot decide for Rivers people whether or not to return as governor to the Brick (Government) House.
It would be recalled that Governor Fubara had on Sunday stated that he is not desperate to be reinstated as Governor and cautioned his supporters to tone down their confrontational approach to the State’s political situation. And rather follow his strategic steps towards enduring peace. He was quoted as saying his ‘spirit left the Government House long ago.’ He made the remarks during a Night of Tributes organized by the Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum in honour of the late elder statesman, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark.
The event took place at the Royal House of Grace Church in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

But the Coordinator of South-South Elders Forum, Anabs Saro-Igbe, in an interview said the political situation in Rivers State had gone beyond Fubara. He warned that ‘it is now a Rivers State Matter!’ Hence, Fubara cannot take a decision for the entire Rivers people who elected him.
Maintaining that the residents want justice, Saro-Igbe, added that justice and restoration of a democratic system would salvage their hearts.
Similarly, Emmanuel Moses, another resident, described Fubara’s position as an insult to Nigerians who persevered in the struggle for the protection and preservation of Nigeria’s sovereignty.
He said; “If Mr Fubara thinks it’s about him, then he must be thinking too much of himself. Rivers people and indeed Nigerians rose up in defence of constitutional democracy and not for Fubara; hence, it’s an insult to our sensibilities for Fubara to reduce a struggle for the protection and preservation of our sovereignty as Rivers people into his mal-adventure, even though he’s at the centre of the scrambling for our collective patrimony as Rivers People.”
Kola Bello, yet another local, when accosted argued that it will be wise for Fubara to tender his resignation letter instead of compromising his standard, adding that he foresees intimidation on him.
For Mrs. Agnes Fubi, she feared that the rapid development going on under the administration of Fubara will be jeopardized.
Meanwhile, followers of Fubara have maintained coldness as the statement of the suspended governor appeared to have deflated some of them. Conversely, supporters of the FCT Minister’s camp have continued to rant, urging Fubara to resign with no further delays.
