Foundations train 50 widows in Abuja, present financial supports

As Nigerians join the world to observe the International Widows Day, the Anneozeng Ogozi Aid Foundation (AOAF), in collaboration with Mothers Rescue Empowerment Initiative, (MREI), have trained no fewer than 50 widows in various skills that will help carter for their welfare.

The Foundations, while marking this year’s International Widows Day at Aleyita, a community along Airport Road, Abuja, trained these widows on how to produce different pastries such as meat pie, fish roll, doughnut, puff-puff and chin-chin among others.

Addressing Journalists in Abuja, Anneozeng Ogozi who doubles as the founder of the Non-governmental Organisation said it was imperative to draw attention to the voices and experiences of widows so as to help galvanize as well as offer the unique support they need considering the challenges they continued to face on a daily basis.


“Losing a husband or a partner can be an extremely saddening experience, and for many women in the world, becoming widows can be the beginning of a whole new set of challenges such as providing and meeting the needs of the family.”


Presenting financial supports to the widows which to some will serve as startups,and others as to boost their already existing businesses, Anneozeng expressed optimism that if the funds are well managed they will be able to create jobs for themselves as well as provide for their families amidst Coronavirus pandemic.


Similarly, Comrade Memunat Shaibu and Mrs. Eleje Okoro also supported the widows with wrappers and other valuable materials.
Aside the training and presentation of materials, Memuna and Eleje at the occasion educated the widows on mental health as well as personal hygiene, while the CEO Meri Nig, Mr. Muyiwa spoke on business management.


In appreciation, the widows thanked the foundations for coming to their aide and by giving them hope at this trying period.


The United Nations observes international widows Day every 23rd of June since 2011, to draw attention to the voices and experiences of widows and to galvanize the unique support that they need.
