Be focused on your founding objectives, cleric tells OPC members

An Islamic scholar and preacher, Sheik Muyideen Ajano Bello has charged members of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), not to deviate for the purpose behind its formation, but stay focused in achieving the aims and objectives behind it.
Speaking during the 2017 edition of the Radamdan Lecture, organised by the OPC for its Muslim members and others, as part of activities for the fasting period, the renowned Islamic scholar said that the group has continued to remain relevant because it was formed to fight for people’s freedom.
“The Lord has a purpose for bringing you together and you should not go out of whatever the Lord wants you to do. He has continued to sustain OPC over the years because he knew about its formation,” Sheik Bello said.
The preacher who also used the opportunity to explain why he has continued to associate with the OPC and why would continue to do so, said that apart from the fact that he had carefully examined the character and conduct of the national coordinator of the OPC, Otunba Gani Adams, his continued association with the group is in adherence to the directive by the Almighty Allah.
The Muslim cleric said, “I have watched Gani Adams from far and from close distance and I have found out that he has not been doing what the Lord forbids.”
Sheik Bello also said that “he swore before me that he does not belong to any secret cult. I have been to his house and I can say that I am satisfied with what I have seen.
“People usually say that he is fond of making appeasement to the gods and I disagree with them. If you continue to say that he is fond of making appeasement to the deities, then that is why you are scared of him,” the cleric said.
He also explained that “Some of you question why I attend OPC even, the Almighty Allah direct us to preach Islam to everybody including the unbelievers. Preaching should not be for only Muslims.”
He also advised OPC members to believe in God as the Supreme Being and the only person who gives an unending power, while also calling on the members of the group to remain committed and united.
He said “Only God can give you power. There is no other power anywhere except the power from God. It is only the power from God that lasts forever. All of you should be loyal to your leader. You should be committed to the organization,” he advised.
The famous Islamic scholar also used the opportunity to speak on national issues, blaming the recession in the country on the ruling elites, noting that the recession affects only the masses of the country.
To him, “there is nothing like recession. Recession was created by those who are leading us in this country and it does not affect them. It only affects the poor and the masses.”
