The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment is to establish an Automotive Industrial Park in Anambra state.
The projects which is in collaboration with the Federal government and Anambra state government would be situated at the land boundaries of Akwaihedi, Unubi and Uga in Nnewi South and Aguata local government area respectively.
Presenting the Certificate of Occupancy, Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano said the project would occupy 80 hecters of land and would be completed within 18 months.
Governor Obiano observed that Anambra government had donated some hecters of land at Amansea to the federal government 21 years ago, but project had been established, urging the federal government to commence construction immediately in accordance with specifications.
Governor Willie Obiano while stating that it was a difficult decision for government to release the land for the project because of the smallness of the state coupled with the continued depletion of the soil surface by erosion however expressed optimism that the park when completed would give rise to the spread of ancilliary industrial parks in the area.
Governor Obiano promised that if the project was completed in record time that the state would give additional eighty hectares of land to the Federal Government for the extension of the park.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investments, Mr Okey Enelamah disclosed this while receiving the Certificate of Occupancy for the eighty hectares of land donated by the state to it for the project in Akwaihedi, Unubi and Uga.
Mr. Enelamah explained that the project which is domiciled in the National Automotive Design and Development Council, was part of efforts by the present administration to achieve its vision of industrializing the nation.
The Minister who described the state as one of the industrial nerve centres of the country, said the federal government had deemed it necessary to site the project in the area to ensure that entrepreneurs and manufacturers of automotive products reached their full potential.
He stated that government would attract both foreign and indigenous investors to establish their businesses in the park, stressing that the benefits being offered by the project were quite enormous.
The Minister gave an assurance that the project which according to him would commence within the next twelve months would be executed in line with international best practices.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Lands, Mr. Okey Muoka who noted that the state was long overdue to have such a Park because of the enterprising nature of its people, said the project when completed would generate both direct and indirect jobs, provide platforms for transfer of technology as well as skills acquisition.
The event attracted many dignitaries including the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige.
