FG begins Operation Back Home for IDPs

The Federal Government has expressed readiness to commence what it tagged Operation Back Home as part of the efforts to return all the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) back to their respective ancestral homes.
The government called on all and sundry, including the international community to join hands to return over two million people already identified as IDPs successfully back to their homes in the new exercise.
The Federal commissioner National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq, said this yesterday in Abuja when she addressed the senior management of the commission who called on all staff to support her leadership to achieve the task.
Hajia Farouq assured that the commission under her leadership will not neglect other core mandate saying “I was saddened by the forceful displacement of people out of their ancestral homes in the North East”.
She said: “We will intensify efforts to rehabilitate victims nationally and empower them in conjunction with local, state, federal governments and the international community”.
Hajia Faroug who was the pioneer acting national treasurer of the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), recently appointed Federal commissioner.
“Now that our dear President, Muhammadu Buhari has regained lost grounds and degraded the Boko Haram insurgency; permit me to appeal to the international community, patriotic Nigerians and you my colleagues in this commission to join in the Operation Back Home (OBH) for Internally Displaced Persons.
“OBH includes Benue, Ekiti, Enugu, Zamfara and other states displaced by herdsmen, flood and sundry disasters. It is my considered view that IDPs are not only subjected to undue hunger, homelessness but dehumanized. We must put all hands on deck to provide them food, shelter and hope for better life, this is our task.
“We are going to conduct a survey to know who the real IDPs are, know where they are coming from and if it is not safe for them to go back home, we will find a way to make life very comfortable for them for the time being. That is what we are going to do because this is not something that can be achieved over night, we will do our best.
“Our plan is to collaborate with all the strategic partners because we all have the same mission, we will work hand in hand with all the relevant stakeholders to ensure that the goal is met”.
