Federal high court approves vacation court for Enugu to hear urgent cases during long break

The Federal High Court has approved the establishment of a Vacation Court at its Enugu Division to handle urgent and sensitive matters during the upcoming long vacation period.

Catherine Oby Christopher, director of information at the federal high court, said the initiative followed a formal appeal by Sir K. Chukwudi Olemeforo, chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association, Oji River Branch.

The request was made in a letter dated June 24, 2025.

DailyTimes had reported that the federal high court of Nigeria will begin its annual vacation on July 28, and it will run from Monday, July 28, to Tuesday, September 16, 2025, with formal court sittings scheduled to resume on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

According to Christopher, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, John Tsoho, granted the request after due consideration of its merits and the need to guarantee access to justice across the South-East.

The Vacation Court will begin sitting on Monday, July 28, and run through Tuesday, September 16, 2025. It will be presided over by Justice M. T. Segun-Bello.

“The special court sitting will entertain urgent or sensitive matters arising from the South-East states of Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo,” Christopher added.

The court said it remains committed to ensuring the delivery of justice without interruption—even during vacation periods.
