Residents of Somolu under the aegis of Progressive Youths of Somolu have appealed to the leadership of All Progressive Congress (APC) to change its proposed candidates for the local government election coming up in the state.
The Coordinator of the Pro-APC group, Comrade Oladimeji Kayode, made the appeal in a protest letter made available to our correspondent on Thursday.
According to him, youths in the area would prefer individuals that are known for peaceful conducts.
He advised that leadership of the APC to visit the area to listen to the feelings of residents before selecting candidates for the party.
He alleged that the selection of two candidates identified as ‘Bobo’ and ‘Dullar’ was causing fear among residents.
He said, “At present, two people have reportedly been favoured as the chairmanship candidates in somolu Local Government under APC. It is painful that majority of residents of Somolu believe that these individuals fuel crisis in the area and we are tired of violence in the area.
“It is important to raise this alarm to prevent likely factional crisis that may result to casualties. We urge the leadership of the party to pick candidates that residents have trust in and could restore peace in the area.
“We are sure that Chieftains of APC at the state level knows very well that Somolu is a volatile neighborhood which is just recovering from series of gang fight that turned our streets into a battle field between different cult members from different fraternities claiming the lives of many of our youths, houses burnt and propertied lost.
“They should help us heal from our wounds and not compound our woes by selecting candidate with a peaceful character. More scaring is the fact that the two aspirants have refuse to reach agreement within each other.
“While every other Local Government and Local Council are preparing for election across the state, we live in fear of not knowing where our future lies.”
It was gathered that 14 aspirants obtained the APC aspirant form from Somolu.
The youths leader alleged that picking any of the two aspirants may result to loss of election or served as punishment for residents of the area.
“We, the Progressive Youths of Somolu, hereby calls on all the Chieftains of APC Lagos State to disqualify this two candidates and pick another two from the remaining twelve aspirant who are credible enough to run our council and can make sure that somolu is not left out of the development trend in Lagos,” he added.
