Fayose lifts curfew as Catholic bishop cautions against violence
Ekiti state Governor Ayo Fayose has lifted the dawn to dusk curfew imposed on the state in the wake of the declaration of the results of the last presidential election won by Maj Gen Mohammed Buhari of the APC.
Fayose in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Idowu Adelusi on Thursday said the curfew was lifted in the spirit of Easter celebration and to enable Christians to celebrate Easter, which is the climax of the Lenten season.
Similarly, the Catholic Bishop of Ekiti diocese, Most Rev Felix Ajakaye, has appealed to the people of the state to eschew violence while celebrating the victory of Buhari at the poll.
Speaking at the St Patrick Cathedral, Ado Ekiti, during Chrism mass on Thursday, the bishop decried wanton destruction of property and killing of innocent lives during jubilation of the victory while the winner and loser of the election are resting in their homes.
The bishop urged the people to be peaceful and orderly as the governorship and House of Assembly elections, slated for April 11, approaches.
He said “The coming election should be peaceful. I appeal to you to be peaceful and cast your votes according to your conscience.”
While urging the people of the state happy Easter celebration, the governor said security operatives were on hand to deal with anybody that might want to cause trouble during the Easter celebration.
The governor had on Tuesday declared curfew from 7.30pm to 6am urging those who might want to celebrate the APC victory to do so in the confine of their homes.
