Falana, others, brainstorm on Nigeria’s socio-political, economic challenges

Human rights activist and constitutional lawyer, Falana (SAN) and other erudite scholars cum political analysts are expected to discuss the challenges and prospects of finding solution to the socio-economic and political issues threatening the unity of Nigeria at the 2017 edition of the Public Administration and Management Development Institute (PAMDI) National Conference which holds on Friday in Lagos.
Falana will deliver the keynote address on the theme of the conference titled, “Re-engineering the Nigerian State: Challenges and Prospect,” on the occasion with His Excellency, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, with the Executive Governor of Lagos State as Special Guest of Honour.
Fiery lawyer and social crusader, Onyekachi Monday Ubani will speak on the “Sustainability of Government Policies: A Panacea for Political and Economic Development.” Also Professor, Diji Daniel Aina, the Vice Chancellor of Caleb University, will deliver a paper on, “Federalism and the Nigerian State: An Anti-Thesis,” while renowned political analyst, Mr. Temitope Salami is expected to present a paper titled: “Engaging Nigerian Youths in national Re-engineering Process”.
The Director General of PAMDI, Dr. Elijah Ogbuokiri, said the theme for the conference: “Re-engineering the Nigerian State: Challenges and Prospect”, is most auspicious now as the nation searches for solutions to the numerous institutional problems affecting governance in the country.
“It is altruistic that Nigerian citizens have basic expectation on the government. What impact has governance made in their lives? What have they derived from the social contract agreement in terms of improvement in their living standards?”
Speaking further, Dr. Ogbuokiri said PAMDI is committed to contributing to the development of the country through objective advocacy.
The highpoint of the event will be the presentation of merit awards to some Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in leadership and selfless services to the nation.
They include Rt. Honourable Kabiru Mijinyawa, The Speaker, Adamawa State House of Assembly – for Excellent Leadership and Governance. Also the Speaker of Borno House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Abdulkarim Lawan, will receive the Excellent Leadership and Good Governance award, while Professor Sam Erugo will be decorated with the “Distinguished Merit Award for Academic Excellence.”
His Royal Highness, Alhaji Hamman Gadbo Muhammed Sambo will receive the “Public Administrator Emeritus” award, while Alhaji Babatunde Musa Sani will also receive the award of “Public Administrator Emeritus award.”
