Facility tour: ANSG reassures of quality healthcare to Ndi Anambra

Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala, says the state government is committed to ensuring quality healthcare services to Ndi Anambra.
Dr. Okpala made the commitment at Ukpor General Hospital during his familiarisation tour of hospitals in the state.
He explained that Governor Willie Obiano directed that state-owned hospitals should ensure delivery of quality healthcare services to Ndi Anambra.
The commissioner added that he was satisfied at state of facilities on ground in the hospital and urged the management to be committed toward discharge of their duties.
“Since we are working for patients, we must apply professionalism in dealing with them because if they give negative report about the hospital, government will first listen to them.
“We take patients’ complaints seriously because it is expected that they leave the hospital happy and satisfied.
“This General Hospital is built to ensure that people within this area and beyond receive adequate medical attention,’’ he added.
Mr. Johnbosco Akaegbobi, lawmaker representing Nnewi South Constituency 2 in Anambra State House of Assembly, commended the commissioner for the visit, while reassuring him of the community’s support.
Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Dr. Adaobi Mbamalu, who took the commissioner round the facility, appealed to Government to upgrade the hospital’s theatre for optimal performance.
At Azia Comprehensive Healthcare Centre, Ihiala LGA, the commissioner said the essence of his visit was to know challenges facing the hospital in line with Governor Obiano’s directive.
He reassured them of government’s determination toward ensuring that the facility would be manned by qualified personnel for optimal services to alleviate the sufferings of patients.
“We will ensure that the two hospitals visited will soon receive government’s urgent interventions.’’
Dr. Okpala commended some of the communities for their support, as well as bringing to his notice challenges facing the hospitals in their communities.
The commissioner noted that Gov. Obiano’s recent inauguration of medical Oxygen Gas Plant at the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka demonstrated his commitment toward making the health sector a priority.
According to him, Gov Obiano directed that all Hospitals, Healthcare Centres be provided two cylinders of oxygen free of charge, while subsequent ones would be paid for.
President-General, Azia Community, Mr. Kenneth Maduako, commended the commissioner for his timely visit.
He noted that all the structures within the hospital were done by the community and urged the state government to fully take charge of it.
“We have spent millions of naira in this hospital; all we want is for government to take full ownership of this hospital for optimal performance to people,’’ he said.
In attendance during the visit include Dr Richmond, Achugbu Hospital Administrator, Enugwu-Ukwu, Mrs. Nwamaka Arinze, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the governor on General Hospitals.
Also in the entourage was Mrs. Oluchi Onyedikachi, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Medical Supplies and Facility.
