Why eight governors won DTN awards

The Daily Times of Nigeria’s commitment to rewarding outstanding performance of some state governors in the country is borne out of the saying by popular by renowned novelist, Brodi Ashton, Everneath: “Heroes are made by the paths they choose, not the powers they are graced with.”

All the governors to be bestowed with The Daily Times Heroes, Governor of the Decade Award and Daily Times Heroes, Governance awards have chosen the path of honour in service to humanity.

Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, Gombe State

Ibrahim Dankwambo is the only Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor elected in the North on April 11, 2015. He won the Times Heroes Governor of the Decade Award for his commitment to the unity of Nigeria, enduring democracy and institutionalisation of democratic ethics.

He represents great sacrifices to lead, educate and transform. He works out of his comfort zone as the only governor from a minority party in a zone dominated by governors from the governing party, yet he exudes performance and leadership that transforms.

He demonstrates the saying by Roy T. Bennett, author of The Light in the Heart that “It’s only after you have stepped outside your comfort zone that you begin to change, grow, and transform.”

Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, Abia State

Renowned biochemist, teacher and a highly acknowledged Public Servant, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu of Abia State, won the Times Heroes Governance Award for his commitment to the redevelopment of the state through reinvigorated skilled entrepreneurship and provision of infrastructure.
Governor Ikpeazu, in his leadership style, demonstrates that “Success is not how high you have climbed, but how you make a positive difference to the world.”

Bindow Jibrilla, Adamawa State
Business tycoon turned politician, Governor Bindow Jibrilla of Adamawa State won the Times Heroes Governance Award for his motivation for the youths and laudable development projects and policies toward sustainable growth of the state’s economy.

Governor Jibrilla has remained a great inspiration to many others, bringing out the lessons that everyone wants those who will inspire them to be what they know they could be.

Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Kebbi State

Acclaimed Nigeria’s number one rice Ambassador, Governor Abubkar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State won the Times Heroes Governance Award for his commitment to agriculture and agric-related businesses.

Akinwunmi Ambode, Lagos State
The Lagos Mega City brand Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, won the Times Heroes Governance Award for his urban renewal and infrastructural development.

Willie Obiano, Anambra State

The security conscious Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, won the Times Heroes Governance Award for his enhanced and sustained security in the state and infrastructural developments among other giant strides.
Willie Obiano is not just doing great things in Anambra State, but also as a great leader, empowering his people to also do great things.

Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, River State
Lawyer and ace politician, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike of River State won the Times Heroes Governance Award for his restoration of peace in the state and infrastructural development.

Yahaya Bello, Kogi State
Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, the first product of the 6-3-3-4 education system to be elected governor, won the Times Heroes Governance Award for establishing unity and political harmony among the constituent parts of the state.
