EFCC Arrests 120 Suspected Internet Fraudsters In Lagos

Operatives from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 stormed various locations across Lagos on Monday and apprehended 120 suspected internet fraudsters.

The suspects include 95 males and 25 females.

Acting on credible intelligence and diligent surveillance, the EFCC operatives swooped down on identified cybercrime hotspots.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Commission said “Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested 120 suspected internet fraudsters, comprising 95 male and 25 female, at various locations in Lagos.”

The agency’s efforts yielded the recovery of 26 exotic cars, expensive jewelry, high-end smartphones, laptops, and numerous incriminating documents linking the suspects to alleged fraudulent activities.

The EFCC underscored that this operation forms part of its sustained push to dismantle cybercrime and digital fraud networks plaguing Nigeria, especially in urban centers experiencing a surge in these illicit activities.

“The suspects were arrested following credible intelligence and thorough surveillance regarding their alleged involvement in internet-related fraud,” the EFCC added.

Currently, the arrested individuals are undergoing intensive interrogation and forensic profiling. The EFCC affirmed that they will face arraignment in court following the conclusion of investigations.

Reiterating its commitment to eradicating economic and financial crimes from the nation, the EFCC urged the public to maintain vigilance and report any suspicious activities within their communities.
