Edo Arewa pledges support for guber aspirant

The Arewa community members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Edo State, on Tuesday, declared support for a governorship aspirant, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, in the September 10 gubernatorial election in the state.
The Arewa community led by its leader, Alhaji Adamu Tijani, disclosed this when they paid a courtesy call to Obaseki in his campaign office in the state capital.
Speaking, the state Chairman of the Arewa, Alhaji Shittu Usman, while noting that the community constitutes over 35 per cent of the population in the state, assured the aspirant of their support financially and otherwise.
According to Usman, “I promise you, there is no Arewa community member that will vote anyone else. By the grace of God, we will use our experience, time and resources to convince other members of the Arewa community to support you. We are certain that we will attend your swearing in ceremony because for us, you have been elected.
Meanwhile the secretary of the community, Abdullahi Ibrahim, while pointing that the group had, in the past worked with successive administrations in the state, said they would continue to work hand in hand with any administration to ensure good government for the people of the state.
He affirmed that they had studied the profile and achievements of Obaseki and are convinced he is the right candidate to succeed Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
He continued, “On our part, we have studied the political terrain, and we have also seen that it is good and very important for us to align with a candidate that we feel is far more intellectually-capable and formidable.
“So we have resolved that we will work with you. We will stand by you, come rain, come sunshine so that your mandate will be actualised. For us we don’t believe in political movement our direction is clear. For us we know where you are going and we will follow you to the promise land”.
Responding, Obaseki thanked the community for the support and noted that the Arewa is the first community to have paid him a visit, adding that as far as the relationship between the community and the Obaseki family still exists, he would strive to fulfill his promises to the people.
He assured theme of a conducive business environment in the state if elected governor and also promised to restructure and revitalise the business and educational sectors within the community.
