Delta CJ warns judicial staff against corrupt practices, allays fear of jungle justice

The Chief Judge of Delta State Justice Marshal, Umukoro has warned Judicial Workers on corrupt practices saying that any worker of the judiciary found wanting in bribe takings, would be summarily dismissed.

Justice Umukoro who stated this yesterday in Asaba while meeting with court registrars, Assistant Registrars, and exhibit keepers in various courts in the Delta North Judicial Divisions in the state, berated staff of the Judiciary serving in open courts across the state for indulging in various acts of sharp practices, including extortion of money from litigants and their relations before carrying out their official duties.

He warned that anyone caught in the act would be made to face the full wrath of the law even as he disclosed that security agents were put on alert to be on the watch out for such deviant ones. Assuring members of the public of fair play in the discharge of Judicial duties, the Chief Judge however advised staff of the judiciary to be diligent, honest and hardworking and avoid being vulnerable to financial pressure and impropriety.

Responding on behalf of his colleagues, Justice Kester Isumbor of the Owa-Oyibu High Court of Justice, assured of sincere discharge of duties, including to avoid any form of unwholesome practice that would bring the integrity of the judiciary into disrepute.

Meanwhile, the State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with SERVIER Pharmaceuticals of France with the aim of bringing medical succor to hypertensive and diabetic patient in the state.

The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Festus Ovie Agas, who signed on behalf of the state government, urged the company to put the MOU to reality in order to add values to the lives of Deltans.

Mr. Agas, who noted that the Senator Ifeanyi Okowa administration placed high premium on human capital, especially in the health sector, given his professional background, said “the MOU was one of the most innovative MOUs signed by the state government.” And congratulated the company for the successful signing.

The leader of the group, Mr. Ayoola Dominic, said that the MoU would provide the state the opportunity to assess quality drugs in the state, adding that it would also provide training to about 200 medical officers in the state.

The Director-General, Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Dr. Ben Nkechika, urged the state government to provide media coverage and sensitization about the programme in the state.

Present at the event were the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Azinge and Chairman, Delta State Contributory Health Commission, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta among others.
