Crisis: OPSH mobilize pupils in Kaduna, Plateau back to School
The Operation Safe Haven (OPSH), in Plateau State, yesterday mobilized pupils in the troubled parts of Plateau and Kaduna States with school materials, aimed at encouraging them to return back to school.
The pupils are those who fled their ancestral land for safety, as a result of the incessant Fulani herdsmen attack, that has hitherto engulfed Southern Kaduna and some troubled parts of Plateau State.
The Commander OPSH, Major General Rogers Ibe Nicholas, stated that the gesture has become necessary as the fear of being attacked by hoodlums has not left the affected communities hence students and pupils are yet to return to school.
He said the aim is also to build the confidence of parents, so that they can release their children to return to school, adding that security of lives in the general area has received a boost with the presence of security operatives deployed to the area.
His words: “it is one thing to restore peace and another to sustain it; we are all living witness to what has happened in recent times in southern Kaduna, which has kept school children away from school because of fear of being attacked.
“Providing writing materials to them became necessary, as most of them lost valuables including school kits during the invasion”, he said.
The privileged communities were drown from Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau and Godogodo in Southern Kaduna under Jema’a LGA, with beneficiaries from LGEA Primary School Tenti Babba in Bokkos, Model Primary School and UBE Kibam Primary School in Godogodo community.
Responding, the Head Mistress LEA Primary School Tenti Babba, said this is one of the greatest achievement the school has recorded, appealing to the Army General to beef up more security within the school premises giving the current security threats.
In all, over 3,000 writing materials was made available for schools in Plateau and Kaduna States, with funding from the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, says Gen. Nicholas.
