C/R govt flays corporate organizations for not employing indigenes of state

The Government of Cross River State has accused corporate organizations in the state of not employing its indigenes.

Though the corporate organizations were not mentioned by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Comrade Asu Okang, who represented Governor Ben Ayade at this year’s International Youth Day Celebration held in Calabar, said that corporate organisations in the state have not done too well in employing the people of the state.

“Corporate organisations in the state have not done too well for the inclusion of Cross Riverians in their job line. And that, it is important the young people in the state are given a priority of employment in these ventures,” the commissioner lamented.

He urged youths to stay clear of crime involving cultism, kidnapping, raping, stealing and other social vices and instead should embrace the spirit of enterprise to move the State forward.

Okang said the state, the nation, families and everybody is against cultism, crime and social vices and added in tackling the problem, it is important that the youths take advantage of the EU Amnesty programme by surrendering the arms they’re in possession with.

He went ahead to say, it is also important that the Government provides veritable means of sustaining young people outside the creeks, aside of the issues of violence and charged the young people to take advantage of the Ayade excellent leadership prowess and eschew the ‘Pull Him Down Syndrome’.

“I’d like to charge young people to eschew violence and to also make use of the best of their time, because their tomorrow depends on their in-actions today. For us to grow, it is important to understand that as young people, we owe ourselves the collective support. We should shy away from the ‘Pull Him Down syndrome’ as well,” Asu Okang said.

“The programme is the social inclusion of young people to ensure that they do next to nothing but have access to little stipend of N7,500 that can keep them away from violence. Also in September, the Cross River State Job Centre will be commissioned by Governor Ben Ayade to curb the issues of unemployment in the state.”

Under the Ayade led administration, Asu Okang said, Cross River has domesticated the Youth Policy Document. The document which was signed into law in February 2017 was the first in the entire country by any state. He also reiterated that, the state has obtained the backings of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Cuso International for the technical support and financing of the Multi-Sectoral Youth Programme.

Also speaking, Dr. Yakubu Aliyu of the UNFPA who delivered a statement from the Acting Executive Director, Dr. Natalia Kanem said, Peace depends on the participation of young people. And that Young people have the potential to act as greater forces for positive social change and to build the foundation for a just and peaceful world.

Aliyu added that, the UNFPA have supported the state through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, urging the youths to support the commissioner for he’s the Moses of the state.
