C/R govt constructs houses for Bakassi IDPs

Cross River state government is constructing robust houses for Bakassi Internally Displaced People (IDPs). Inspecting some of the buildings tagged Bakassi resettlement camp, Governor Ben Ayade said the housing estate is to house the internally displaced people of Bakassi who have been rendered homeless.

“This is part of the whole resettlement process which should include giving them a new political Identity, granting them permanent ownership of the resettlement area and creating political structures and traditional leadership,” Ayade said.

The Governor notified the public and Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Betta Edu on the need for a comprehensive primary health center for the Bakassi people to cater for their health needs. According to him, it will afford the people access to quality healthcare as he does not expect them to lack basic amenities in the new resettlement.

In her contribution, the Director General (DG) of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency Dr Betta Edu said Bakassi people are blessed to have a caring and listening Governor who takes their plight of his people very seriously and has been doing everything possible to see how they can start a new fulfilled live in their new settlement. She lauded the Governor for once again showing his resolved to providing accessible healthcare for all.

The DG however decries the poor response of the federal Government to the plight of the Bakassi people. “It is a shame that the green tree agreement is not kept and Nigerians are killed every day in their numbers by the Cameroon soldiers.”

“We have received several rape cases and the plight of our people is almost completely ignored by the federal government and international community that were part of this injustice in the first place” she recalled.

Meanwhile a lot of Commissioners and Special Advisers/Assistant who accompanied the Governor to the resettlement site confess to the Governor over what they term the Structure, “Aesthetically appealing”

According to them the building is super standard and befitting for a living as it shows how concern the Governor is to Bakassi people.
