COVID-19: Rivers says increase in infection rates no cause for alarm

As the number of coronavirus cases in Rivers state hits 79, the state government has asked residents not to panic.

Recall that Rivers state recorded its first COVID-19 case on March 25, as announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The governor in a state broadcast told the residents that the increase was an indication of the expanded testing in the state.

Governor Wike reassured Rivers residents that government was determined more than ever to do everything to fight against the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

“We thereforez urge residents not to panic even with the increasing number of positive cases, which is only indicative of the expanded testing now taking place in the state

“Before long, we will flatten the curve, gradually lift the restrictions, restore normalcy and open up the state fully for business.

“But until then, all we will continue to ask for is your patience, cooperation, and religious compliance with the established measures to curb the spread of this virus,” he appealed.

The NCDC published its daily result Wednesday night, bringing the total cases of the pandemic in the state to 79, out if which 44 cases are active, while 21 cases have been discharged.
