Court remands farmer for allegedly defiling minor

A Magistrates’ Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State on Thursday remanded a 38-year-old farmer, Timothy Sunday in a corrections centre for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) charged Subday with rape, contrary to section 257 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.

The presiding judge, Michael Bawa, declined to take the plea of Sunday for lack of jurisdiction to hear the matter.

Bawa directed the prosecutor to forward a duplicate copies of the case file to the State Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

He adjourned the matter until Sept.26 for further mention

Earlier, the NSCDC prosecutor, Mr Marcus Audu told the court that the complainant, Judith Jonathan reported the matter at the corps’ office in Kafanchan on Aug.8.

Audi stated that Sunday lured the complainant’s daughter into his room and defiled her.

He said the victim was taken to the Salama Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Kafanchan for medical examination.
