Council polls: NOA embarks on voter education campaign in Jigawa

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Jigawa State has embarked on voter education campaign across the state ahead of the local council’s election fixed for July 3.
The campaign is to create awareness on fundamental civic rights at the grassroots, NOA officer for Malammadori Local Government, Shittu Umar, said in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in Malammadori.
Umar added that the campaign was also to push for peaceful conduct of the local council poll and educate the electorate on their civic responsibilities.
He added that the exercise would create awareness on party symbols, election procedures and electoral laws.
Umar said that NOA had conducted similar exercises in Kafinhausa, Kaugama, Auyo and Kirikasamma local government areas.
According to him, the participants included political parties, community and religious leaders, Civil Society Organisations, youth and women groups.
Umar called on candidates to demonstrate high sense of political tolerance and advised the electorates to be law abiding and avoid acts capable of disrupting the peace before, during and after the election.
He advised parents to protect their children from bad influence and engaging in thurggery. (NAN)
