Commonwealth Day: FG to pursue ‘inclusive Education’

 

The Federal Government has promised to pursue efficient National Policy on Education that will guarantee inclusiveness without any discrimination or hindrance in line with the objectives underlying the formation of the Commonwealth Association.

Minister for Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, who made the declaration in Abuja while marking the Commonwealth day celebration, said that in pursuing inclusive education, government has put in place, a number of strategies to ensure the attainment of the goals within the expected timeline

He said: ’’The launching of the National Campaign on access and the need to boost enrolment, institutionalisation of early child care development education, promoting Girl-child education, improving adult and youth literacy enrolment by 50%, promoting technical and vocational education and training, etc, the Nigerian Education sector has formulated educational policies that promotes different forms of inclusive education.’’

Also speaking at the occasion, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Anwuka, noted that the Commonwealth from its inception pursued inclusive policies in its relationship with member nations through various programmes.

He further called for the extension of inclusive education policy implementation through the development and designing of schools, classrooms and programmes and activities that promote students’ learning and unified participations.

Earlier in an address delivered by the Director, Education Support Services, Dr. Justina Ngozi Ibe, the Head of the Commonwealth and the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II, called for constant reflections on the ideals of the organisation through ensuring the willingness to share, exchange, and to act for the common good by including others, drawing on collective insights, and laying foundations for a harmonious and progressive society.
