Church of the Brethren tasks FG to expedite action on release of Chibok Girls

The Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, has tasked the federal government to expedite action in rescuing the remaining Chibok girl abductees to keep them steadfast in the Christian faith.
The President of the church, Rev. Joel Bili, made appeal while speaking with newsmen in Kwarhi, Adamawa state during its 70th annual convention.
The cleric noted that the church would not relent in its efforts in praying for the safe arrival of the remaining girls and their parents to direct their focus on and faith in Jesus Christ.
Billi equally urged the Presidential Committee on North-East Initiative (PCNI), to redouble its effort in fast tracking and rebuilding of places of worship destroyed by insurgents in the region.
He explained that the church is awaiting the presence of the presidential committee to intervenn rebuilding the church that was destroyed by insurgents which forced the church to operate an annex headquarters in Jos for two years.
The cleric expressed concern over billions of naira injected to the committee without corresponding justification.
He called on the three tiers of government to carry clergies as well as traditional institutions along in decision-making process in the country.
“No sensible leader, either the pastors, imams or royal fathers, would ever be senseless in attacking government.
“We therefore urge government to operate an open-door policy for all and sundry as most time clergies were misunderstood. added.
Earlier, Rev. Jay Whitemeyer, Executive Director, Global Mission and Services of the USA, chapter explained that the church through its Disaster Management Program, is involved in trauma healing of IDP returnees in the region.
He said Agricultural seeds in addition to entrepreneurial skill acquisition equipment was distributed for the returnees to start a new life.
Highlights of the convention include an award bestowed on 14 members of the church who distinguished themselves in contributing to humanity and peace in the church.
