BBOG holds rally today

Following the release and confirmation by the Presidency that 21 of the missing #Chibokgirls have been freed through government efforts, the #BringBackOurGirls Lagos group would be holding a rally today, Thursday, October 13 at the Falomo Roundabout, Ikoyi from 6pm – 7pm.

In a press statement made available to Daily Times by the group’s Program Coordinator, Niyi Onabanjo, it states, “the #BringBackOurGirls Lagos Family, that has been meeting every Saturday since May 2014 at Falomo and now also two Saturdays a month in Ejigbo, feel vindicated that the confidence we reposed in the government’s ability to effect the rescue or release of the Chibok girls was well founded.

“We join the Abuja BBOG family who meet at Unity fountain on a daily basis in reiterating that our advocacy is a fight for the soul of Nigeria; a fight for our rights as citizens; a fight to demonstrate that every Nigerian life matters, be you rich or poor; a fight to insist that every child deserves an education in a safe place, regardless of gender or religion; an insistence that government agencies ensure that any citizen who goes missing or is kidnapped is recovered; a demand that our leaders care for our welfare when we are vulnerable and displaced.”

While commending this feat, the group also call for proper and humane protocol in the treatment of the freed girls, in protecting their privacy, in reuniting them with their families, in respecting their personal wishes.

“We demand more effective systems in rehabilitation and psychosocial care for the rescued and the displaced. We look forward to hearing news of the liberation of the remaining 197 Chibok girls whose parents must be going through renewed hope and renewed anguish,” the statement read.

Recall that on the night of 14–15 April 2014, 276 female students were kidnapped from the Government Secondary School in the town of Chibok in Borno State, Nigeria.
