The Management of the Feral Government Polytechnic Bida, in Niger state, has tactically broken the rank and file of the Institutions Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic ( ASUP).
Towards this end with the national strike declared by Union enters the seventh day, members of the Union at the Federal Polytechnic Bida have accused their Chapter Chairman, Abubakar Ndaasabe of corruption and acute incompetence.
They have also accused him of lack of good initiative that drives a well-organized union.
A letter jointly signed by a Director in the institution and former Chairman of the Union, Dr. Victor Okolobah, and a Deputy Director, Mallam Alhassan Kawu, listed the offenses of the chapter Chairman to include: “lack of adherence to the provisions of the Union, spending of funds without appropriation by the Congress.
“And acute disobedience to the constituted authorities.
It further alleged that the Chairman is only interested in the pursuit of personal agenda and fighting a war of attrition with the institution’s management without benefits.
“All they are doing in this union contravene the aims and objectives of the union and the earlier he is stopped from doing these things, the better.” the letter further read.
Members of the group also berated the Chairman over his failure to convene regular quarterly congress and annual general meetings accordingly.
It said: “Since the CEC came on board last year, there has not been any progress in the running of the Union. This is the worst regime we have had in our history because things are no longer the same.”
They further alleged that the Chairman has failed to present an audited account of the union even as he appeared to be shielding his predecessor, Mohammed Sarganuwan who equally failed to present his financial report from 2015 to 2019, from being investigated.
“We are troubled that there is no transparency in the running of the Union matters, this is somebody who single-handedly produced hand sanitizers, purchased low-quality rice, and carry out other activities which ran into millions of naira without congress approval.” the statement added.
The lecturers, therefore, demanded that the CEC immediately calls for a congress to address all the charges, advising the staff to come to terms with the revelations of the various illegalities being perpetrated by the current CEC and take a decisive position accordingly.
