Armed robbers hijack trailer with 1000 bags of cement in Delta

Eyewitness said the trailer load of cement with the inscription “Group of Company” was hijacked by the armed robbers who shot severally into the air.
During their operation, it was gathered that the driver and his two motor boys were shot, ordered to face the ground till the operation lasted.
But were rescued by some residents in the areas who summoned courage and took them to hospital for treatment where they are currently responding to treatment with multiple injuries.
The driver, Garuba Mohammed, critically lying at the Ebu Central Hospital, told our reporter that in his attempt to slow down on the failed portion of the road met a brick wall when something skipped him out of the road, thereby making him to stop.
According to him, the suspects struck at the bad portion of the road, when the drivers usually slow down, adding that the hoodlums, who attacked from their hiding place beside the road, attacked him, without the knowledge of the other truck drivers loaded with granite, ahead of him.
“The armed suspects”, he said, “jumped into my slow moving vehicle and held me captive, and collected my money, two handsets and stabbed me all over my body, from my head, shoulder, abdomen, leg and my back, as you can see, and also collected my vehicle key and drove off”, they shot at me and my two motor boys, he said.
“I was left alone seriously bleeding, on the lonely road, surrounded by bushed, full of strange and fearful sounds, and I hid myself in the bush beside the road, until assistance came after exhaustive one-and-a half hours”.
The activities of armed men along the road, according to him, called for an emergency solution, due to the economic importance of the road, which runs across many Delta State agrarian communities.
The presence of the road, mostly drivers, farmers and traders, who ply the road, boost the commercial activities in the Ebu, Illah, Ugbolu and others communities, including Edo State boundary communities, but the current menace of the hooligans has been affecting the progress of commercial activities, as traders from outside the state travel with fear.
With the recurring cases of reported violent robbery operations on the road, without any seeming prompt intervention by the law enforcement agents, to address the ugly situation, in spite of the public lamentation and condemnation, the positive economic development attracted by the road now stands the risk of a steady decline.
But in a swift reaction, the Police Image Maker in the state, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka confirmed the truck was recovered inside the bush and the suspects fled, adding the police were on their trail with a view to bringing them to book.
