APC inaugurates committee to tackle Bauchi, Kogi crisis

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has commenced moves to reconcile its warring members in two crisis ridden states, Bauchi and Kogi.

In Bauchi State, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has been in a running battle with the state governor, Mohammed Abubakar, over the control of the state APC structure while the APC executive committee in Kogi State has been in crisis with Yahaya Bello since his inauguration as the state governor.

The Bauchi committee is headed by the Minister of Labor and Productivity, Senator Chris Ngige, while Kogi is headed by Prince Tony Momoh.

Speaking during the inauguration of the committees on Wednesday at the party’s National Secretariat, National Chairman of the party, Chief John Oyegun, noted that Bauchi and Kogi states have remained the most worrisome chapters of the party, stressing that the members of the committees were carefully selected because of the peculiarity of the crisis.

While thanking the members of the committees for accepting to serve, Oyegun said Kogi crisis has a history behind it and the circumstances that led to Yahaya Bello’s emergence as the governor and the transition manner are all complex issues which requires competent men to handle.

“You have a very simple assignment which is fact-finding and reconciliation without necessarily apportioning blames. I know that once the facts are established, it will be very simple to deal with,” he said.

The committees were given two weeks to submit their reports.

Responding, Prince Tony Momoh, on behalf of the two committees, attributed some of the problems the party has to lack of effective communication.

He said members of the party should give the leadership an opportunity to tackle the challenges confronting it.

Also speaking, Senator Chris Ngige thanked the NWC for believing in them to deliver on the enormous assignment, adding that the problems in the two states are bruises which arose as results of power tussle.
