APC commends Tinubu on repositioning nation’s economy

By Tom Okpe

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over recent rebounding of the Naira and the nations economy.

The Nigerian Naira extended its recent gains, strengthening to a four-month high against the US Dollar to close at 1518/$ on Monday.

He said Naira has become one of the best performing currencies which can be used on the streets of London, New York and other advanced countries.

APC National Secretary, Senator Suraj Ajibola made this known on Friday, at a one-day capacity building seminar for the party’s zonal and state publicity secretaries, in Abuja, saying; “prophets of doom who had predicted that Naira will drop to 200/$ are now disappointed.”

He said: “Contrary to the doom based scenario of people who thought Naira would climb to 2,000 and beyond 2,000, Naira has become one of the best performing currencies in Nigeria.

“Today, you can use your Naira card to draw money on the streets of London and the streets of New York and you can use your Naira card to make a transaction on POS. I was asking somebody at the Apple Store about an iTunes gift card, and he said you can now use Naira to be able to do that transaction.

“It showed that what the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has done is to let us get integrated into the structure of the global economy, and that has also brought investment, massive one into the Nigerian economy. Today, our oil production is now peaking at 1.7 million barrels per day because they were able to attract investment in those areas,”he said.

Ajibola charged the party’s spokespersons to gear up towards tackling falsehood against APC, lamenting the the weaponisation of falsehood as an instrument of politics in Nigeria.

“So this gathering is important for us to be able to tackle those who have also weaponised ethnicity. Growing up in Nigeria, ethnic faultline is not as pronounced as it has been made ahead of the 2027 election, and unfortunately, they are still doing carryover of that post-2023 election.

“Another front line is that of religion. Weaponisation of religion on the ground of politics. Even people whose santimonious attitude is very dubious now try to wear the toga of religion for the purpose of political ascendancy. These are part of the efforts that we need to put in place. How do we effectively tackle the weaponisation of falsehoods, weaponisation of ethnicity, and weaponisation of religious bigotry in our country.”

Also speaking, Minister of solid minerals, Dr Dele Alake the federal government has put in place a lot of policy initiatives and reforms which were having very salutary effect on the macro economy of the country.

He said the federal government had been doing its own beat in terms of ensuring more money accrue to the sub-national governments is also embarking on major infrastructural development.

“Like, take the almost 40-something year old Lagos-Calabar Highway, which had been on the drawing board for decades. The same thing with the Sokoto-Badagry Highway had been on the drawing board.
I remember as a reporter during the Shagari era, this was mentioned.

“It takes a little while before the macro-positivities now seep or percolate into the micro. Now, when people say, this thing is expensive, this rises, that automatically is expensive, that’s the micro. But if you don’t stabilise the macro, you cannot get advantages of the micro.

“So when, for instance, there is a stability in the economy via more revenue accruing to the sub-nationals to embark on infrastructural development, then employment generation will begin to rise. With employment generation, production will begin to grow.

“With growth of production, there will be more money to circulate within the economy. So, the micro will eventually be taken care of. When there’s productive ventures in the country, your currency will automatically become stronger and more valuable,” he added.
