Anambra guber: APC groups petition appeals panel committee says Nwoye not viable

Two groups of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have petitioned the appeals panel committee of the party to disqualify Tony Nwoye who became the flagbearer of the party in the August 26 primary election for the November 18, 2017 governorship election in Anambra State.

The groups in their separate petitions to the appeals panel committee titled: ‘The unsellability of “candidate” Tony Nwoye and an appeal for disqualification of Tony Nwoye’ signed by Mr. Ifeka Egbunike, State coordinator of All Progressive Congress‎ Youth Network

and Emmanuel Sawyer, National Secretary All Progressives Congress Front respectively said Tony Nwoye has history of violence, brigandry, thuggery and cultism which is why many people do not see him as capable of governing the state.

The petitions which was made available to The Daily Times in Enugu appealed to the committee to annul the emergence of Dr. Tony Nwoye on the ground that he has unpalatable history of cultism and violence behind him as a student of the University of Nigeria, Enugu campus.

“That former President Godluck Jonathan rejected the selection of Nwoye as gubernatorial candidate in 2013 based on security reports and moral burden.

“The former President could not raise the hand of Tony Nwoye as PDP aspirant because of the moral burden despite the overtures made to the former President by Chief Arthur Eze.

“If a corrupt party like PDP could refuse to associate itself with Tony Nwoye, how then can a party that preaches zero tolerance for corruption and illegality contemplate having such person as its flagbearer.

‎ “In all practical purposes, Tony Nwoye’s work experience is limited to his two years sitting as a member of House of Representatives.

In this era of advancement in modern management of human and material resources, Anambra State needs not only a technocrat, but also an experienced politician who can take our dear state to the next level.

“Given the background of the incumbent governor and other candidates of our opposing political parties, to give the candidacy to such a personality is to contemplate loosing the election.

“There were substantial non-compliance to guidelines in the South and Central Senatorial District where it was observed that the accreditation tags were stamped with fake stamps and were signed by unauthorised officer.

“The candidate, Tony Nwoye deployed tactics of harassment and intimidation in a bid to secure votes from delegates.

They also alleged that the state APC chairman, Borno State, despite not being a member of the accreditation committee was seen with and seen using a fake accreditation stamp, with the nomenclature “SK Anambra governorship primary election 2017” inscribed on it.

This was the same stamp that was used to endorse fake delegates from Anambra South and Anambra Central Senatorial District respectively.

The group also said in the petition that Tony Nwoye has no home base as he is not accepted by his people of Nsugbe in Anambra East which is also the same constituency with the incumbent governor, Willy Obiano,

according to them the people of the area would rather prefer a sitting from their place to continue in power to supporting an unsellable, unknown interloper who lacks political sagacity and dexterity.

The group said Tony Nwoye’s candidacy is not viable, that the only way the party can win the incumbent is by fielding a viable candidate whom Anambra people must view as an alternative to the incumbent.
