Anambra community protest planned Removal of PG

The Youths of Nkwelle-Ezunaka community in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra state yesterday protested the removal of Chief Ikechukwu Nnalue as the President General of the community.

In the protest, the youths who carried placards to the major parts of the community and then to Nteje, the Local Government headquarter, where they handed protest letter to the chairman of the Local government asked Governor Willie Obiano not to allow some influential elements in the community to remove their President-General before his tenure expires this December.

Innocent Ibemezi, Chairman, Nkwelle-Ezunaka youth, said they were not happy that some influential people brought a letter to the effect that their President-General has been removed.

Attributing the situation to the handiwork of some people who have interest in the position, Ibemezi said that they want to replace their elected town union executive with caretaker committee.

He said the youth were protesting because Nnalue led executive were duly elected and their tenure will end this December, querrying why they would not want Nnalue and his executive to complete their tenure, so that any person who has interest should come and vie for the position.

“They are doing well since they were elected. They have been working with the Anambra state Government.whoever wants to be PG should wait and contest for this December election” he said.

He alleged that the removal of Nnalue was political undertone lamenting that the persons who have been slated to replace Nnalue executives were even All Progressive Congress (APC) sympathizers.

Alleging that those plotting the removal were not sympathetic to Governor Obiano’s second tenure bid, Ibemezi, lamented that they have petitioned Governor Obiano but he was yet to respond to their petition.

“They did not state his sins. They just don’t want peace in Nkwelle-Ezunaka, but we won’t allow them. There is no crisis since Nnalue became PG. we want peace. We support Obiano. Nkwelle as a whole is APGA” Ibemezi said.

Another youth Leader, Emmanuel Orjiakor, said that it was on August 4, 2017, that they received a message that Nnalue has been removed and he would be replaced them with a caretaker committee.

He said the tenure of Nkwelle-Ezunaka town union is three years, which will end in December this year, having been elected in 2014 but some unpopular persons want to enter through short cut.

“But they want to enthrone anarchy, which is not possible. Nkwelle is peaceful, we call on Governor Obiano to intervene in this matter and restore peace” he said.

Okechukwu Chukwurah from Ifite Nkwelle village called on the Governor not to allow this to happen under a democratic setup, saying that Nnalue still remained their PG and ” if Anambra state Government fails to do something, they are not doing well. They should call us and ask our opinion. After all, we support Obiano.”
