Anambra celebrates 2019 day of the African child

Anambra State has joined the rest of the world to commemorate the 2019 Day of African child.

The event which took place at Anambra Broadcasting field Awka, attracted pupils, civil servants, parents and other members of the public.

In her remark, wife of the Governor, Dr. Ebelechukwu Obiano, represented by the SSA on Donor Agency, Mrs. Mary Ogugua, said the day was observed to raise awareness on the continuing need for improvement of education provided to African children.

Decrying the prevailing challenges faced by the African Child, Mrs. Obiano enjoined children to remain focused and concentrate on their education to actualise their goals in life.

In his advice, Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, Chief Uche Nworah, who spoke on the right of a child, urged the children to be respectful and obedient to their parents at all times.

He equally advised teachers to train children well so that they can move towards the right direction.

Earlier in her remark, a United Nation Children Fund (UNICEF) desk officer, Mrs. Franca Madike, explained that over 10.5 million Nigerian children were unable to access safe and quality education due to the ongoing crisis in some parts of the country which has left schools destroyed.

She assured that the organisation will continue to support Anambra State Government to realise the full potential of every Child in the state through its intervention projects.

In her speech, the Speaker, Anambra State Children’s Parliament, Right Hon. Faustina-Mary Okoye, acknowledged that children play active roles in the society and therefore should be given all necessary orientation for them to strive in this competitive.

Also contributing on the significance of the day, a primary six pupil of Camsy Bernie International Academy Awka, Miss Mbonu Precious Chimdindu, pleaded with patents to treat their children well.

According to her, “Every child has right to better and quality education as no child was born to be useless as we all have our individual potentials. Please encourage us for better tomorrow”.

The event which was in partnership with Ministry of Economic Planning, Budget and Development Partners under UNICEF featured Drama presentation, debate, calisthenics, cultural dance and skill acquisition training on disinfectant and perfume production by God’s Care School of Special Needs, Amaenyi.
