Anambra 2017: My co-aspirants have no blue print for Anambra development- Ohanugo

The governorship candidate of Better Nigeria Progressives Party (BNPP), Chief Ikem Ohanugo, has accused his co-aspirants in the November 18, governorship election in Anambra State of not having blue print of how to develop the state.
Ohanugo who stated this when he spoke to newsmen said some of them talked about payment of staff salaries, construction of roads, purchase of vehicles, Keke and motor bikes among others as their achievements, saying these cannot in actual sense be achievement because they are statutory duties of an elected governor.
The real achievements, he said is when as a governor one creates an enabling environment for business to thrive, create integrated farming settlement to employ large army of unemployed youths and produce more food to feed the growing population.
“I am in the race to convince the people that I can change Anambra State. But the people themselves are the problem, not even political class. People, instead of voting according to their conscience, vote for money. Every money you take must be paid for with the one that should have been used to develop your place. People should look critically, if they find reason to vote me, they should do that without hesitating,” he said.
He cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) not to play politics with the construction of Niger Bridge, saying it was unfair for the APC controlled Federal Government to play politics with the lives of Nigerians.
Chief Ohanugo who was obviously referring to the comments made by both the Vice- President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo and Minister of Labour, Senator Chris Ngige that the Federal Government has released two billion dollars for the commencement of work on the bridge during the flag-off off APC candidate, Dr. Tony Nwoye.
This has elicited a lot of attacks for APC and its leadership among the people who quarried the rationale for making the second Niger Bridge a campaign issue when they actually has stopped the construction work, which had commenced under the former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Ohanugo weighing into the controversy said “if APC want to do the bridge, they should go ahead and do it instead of campaigning and making empty promise they cannot fulfill.”
The candidate frowned at the non-indigene Policy in Nigeria, which does not allow people to contest election where they are born, bred and earn a living, stating that it was abnormal and that was the bane of Nigeria’s socio- economic and political development.
Ohanugo said he was contesting the election to make a point that one is actually from the place he was born, bred and does his/her business.
“Here indigeneship takes pride over place he was born, bred and schooled in Anambra State. I am more Anambrarians than some people. My investments are here. I do everything here, but immediately you ask questions how you are governed, they would realise that you are not from the state,” the BNPP candidate said.
Continuing Ohanugo said “it is even more profound within Anambra people. If you are from Anaocha born in Onitsha or elsewhere in the state vice- versa, you cannot contest election there. This is worse in Igbo land. In Lagos State, non- Lagosians, in fact Igbos stand for election there and win. In Igbo land it is a taboo.”
He lambasted money bags who have hijacked the politics of the state because they merchandise with the future and destiny of the people of the state.
Ohanugo whose father was the President- General of Onitsha markets and later chairman of old Onitsha Local Government lamented that the god fathers who sponsors candidates for election would definitely have their money recouped with interest if their candidates win.
