Ajimobi places N5m ransom as slain Oyo lawmaker buried

It was a moment of grief and lamentation in Igboho, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo state, the hometown of slained lawmaker, Hon. Gideon Aremu, as his body was laid to rest amidst tears and wailing from colleagues, political associate and family.

The Oyo State House of Assembly on Thursday held a valedictory service for late Hon. Gideon Aremu who was killed last Friday by unknown assailant in front of his Alakia home in Ibadan, at about 9:30pm.

Hon. Aremu, who represented Oorelope state constituency until his death, was the chairman, House Committee on Information, Security and Strategy of the 8th Assembly.

The Speaker of the Oyo state Assembly, Hon. Micheal Adeyemo said the departed Hon. Gideon Aremu will be greatly missed because he was very active in whatever assignment he assigned to him while in the assembly.

In his tribute, the deputy speaker of the state Assembly Hon. Musah Abdulwasil said their friendship was beyond the assembly because he was a rare-gem, and a bridge builder which would be hard to replace.

Also, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola from Atiba state constituency said Labour party has lost a priceless colleague, an epitome of hardwork, a scholar whose assassination was very sad.

Some of his political associates, former honourable members of the Oorelope constituency all said the brutal murder was shocking and charged the state government to put perpetrators to book.

Immediately after the lying- in -state at the parliament building, the body of the legislator was taken to his home town in Igboho for the final burial.

The executive governor of the state, who was represented by his deputy, Moses Alake said the family shouldn’t be sad because he (Gideon) had gone to join the saints, he then promised that the state government would ensure that the children left behind will be adequately taken care of.

He also urged his colleagues in the Assembly, philanthropists and good people of the state to assist the family with their resources.

In a short sermon by the officiating minister of the Will of God Ebenezer Apostolic Church, Pastor O.E Oyewole, urged his family and colleagues to take solace in God on the demise of late Hon. Aremu.

The clergy who delivered his sermon in an emotional laden voice prayed that God will expose those who cut his life short, just as he condemned the murder of the lawmaker.
