Adeleke’s death: Dignitaries attend firdau, Osun NLC cancels Workers’ Day celebration

Many dignitaries on Monday stormed the Ede to join the Firdau (prayer) in honour of the late first civilian governor of Osun state, Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke who died on April, 23.
Among the dignitaries were the Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola; his deputy, Mrs Laoye Tomori; the deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Lasun Yusuf, among others.
Top politicians, prominent clerics, philanthropists, and government functionaries were also allowed in.
This is as the Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) said canceled the Workers Day celebration in honour of the deceased.
The State NLC chairman, Mr Jacob Adekomi, confirmed that the body took the decision to honour Adeleke who was the state’s governor between 1992 and 1993, before the coup by General Sani Abacha on 17 November 1993.
Recall that the Fidau (prayer) for Adeleke also falls on Workers’ Day.
Meanwhile, at the venue of the firdau, there was a mild drama as some guests clashed with security operatives for barring them from attending the Firdau of the late lawmaker.
Even workers in the state under the umbrella of Nigeria Labour Congress, who had cancelled their Worker’s Day rally in honour of Adeleke, were almost turned back when they got to the gate leading to the venue of the prayer session.
At the venue, there was also heavy presence of security operatives while Armoured Personnel Carriers were stationed at strategic locations leading to the late Adeleke’s residence.
