Adekanye shines for Liverpool’s U-19s

Potential Nigerian international Bobby Adekanye turned in perhaps his finest performance in a Liverpool shirt to help the Reds’ U-19 team beat their Maribor counterparts in the UEFA Youth League Tuesday.

The Nigerian-born player racked up two goals and two assists as Liverpool claimed a comfortable 4-1 win in Lendava, Slovenia.

Maribor claimed the lead midway through the first half, but on the 30 minute mark Adekanye netted his first goal in the UEFA Youth League to make it 1-1.

On 32 minutes it was 2-1 to the English team, as the 18-year-old forward struck the woodwork with an effort on goal – with the rebound turned home by teammate Herbie Kane.

Adekanye’s second assist arrived six minutes into the second half, as he teed up Liam Millar to make it 3-1, and just before the hour mark the Nigerian-born player netted again to wrap up the scoring at 4-1.

The former Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Barcelona youth prospect was substituted in the 83rd minute.

Adekanye recently admitted that he is unsure whether he will represent Nigeria or the Netherlands at senior international level.
