Adamawa APC candidate set to appeal election tribunal judgment in favor of Girei

Hon Abubakar Babazango (Abaza), the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate is set to appeal the judgment on Monday by the election tribunal sitting in Yola, in favor of Salihu Abba Girei , the member representing Girei, Yola North, Yola South federal constituency of Adamawa State.

Babazango who responded to the judgement immediately said he is appealing because is not satisfied with the verdict of the tribunal.

He said his position as a petitioner was that he asked the tribunal to invalidate and nullify the election of of Hon. Salihu Abba Girei for violating the Election Act.

The National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal dismissed the petition filed by Babazango who alleged that Girei at the time of the election held on the 25th February, 2023, was not qualified to contest the election, and urged the tribunal to invalidate his election and withdraw his certificate of return.

Babazango asked the tribunal to order INEC to issue him with certificate of return having polled majority of lawful votes cast during the election.

According to him, Girei had presented forged his primary school certificate and birth certificate to the electoral body which he used in contesting election.
