Recall that the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire had recently while fielding questions from Journalists during the PTF briefing advised the use of face mask in addition to all other efforts “especially where social distancing may not be achieved or where close contact may not be avoided with certainty, such as market”.

“AMML working in line with the PTF and the effort of the FCT Administration to flatten the curve of the Pandemic spread in the Nation’s Capital will therefore from tomorrow, April 18 2020 commence the enforcement of compulsory use of face mask in the markets.”

While noting that all AMML managed markets open in line with the protocol handed down by the FCTA to sell only food items/ essential commodities on designated dates and time, he explained that such markets include Wuse, Garki Model Market, Kaura and Kado Fish Markets, others are Area 1& 2 shopping complexes & Maitama Farmers Market.

He however, urged residents of FCT to abide by the federal government directive in patronizing only markets within their districts and avoid criss-crossing from one location to the other in search of food items.

This, he said will go a long way to reduce the crowd in any single market and by extension, the chances of spreading the pandemic

“I enjoin all shoppers and traders to join hands with the Government to use face mask-even if it is handmade-any time they are going to the market so that we can stifle life out of this virus.

“Residents of the FCT should also do well to patronize the markets in their district so as to reduce the human traffic currently witnessed in some markets on market days.”He added.
