Four years after the image of the Rector of Yaba College of Technology, Dr. Margaret Ladipo, was dragged in the mud over an alleged “Monumental Fraud” by the former Bursar, Olu Ibirogba, detailing criminal allegations against the Rector and the former Chairman Governing Council of the Institution, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, the Federal Government has declared the allegations baseless and mere fabrications.
In a press release issued by the Deputy Registrar of the College, Dr. Charles Oni, the former bursar at the outset of his petitions, wrote under the name, Honourable A.T Akins, until police investigations revealed he was the brain behind the allegations with his key petitions focusing on embezzlement, illegal collection of commission and several cooked up stories that maligned the image of the Rector and the Institution.
The statement noted that each petition was addressed to the Presidency, National Assembly, Economic and Financial Crime Commission, Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, Office of the Inspector General of Police and Minister of Education among others.
“After a painstaking investigation, the Professor Femi Awopetu Committee has in the White Paper ordered the former Bursar, Olu Ibirogba to refund unauthorised commissions collected by him”, it stated.
The Committee, according to the release, has specifically on several points emphasised that Ibirogba be sanctioned for giving false information against a public officer, adding that the recommendation was congruous with that of the Inspector General of Police that Ibirogba be charged to court for giving false information to the police.
