After 10 years of marriage, woman delivers quintuplets, gets N1m from government

After 10 years of waiting for the fruit of the worm (baby), the wife of Dr Ekpo Edet, Mrs Esther Ekpo Edet, delivered five children (Quintuplets); Dr Edet who is a physician at the University of Calabar, Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department said he was happy with what God gave him. The children according to our findings are three girls and two boys.
Dr. Edet described the birth of his children as “nothing short of a miracle. To be blessed with three girls and two boys at a time, after 10 years of marriage, is a blessing. This is the first time in the history of Cross River State and the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital that a woman, my wife, would be delivered of a quintuplet.
“God has been faithful. The doctors have confirmed that the babies are kicking. We are entering into the second phase and I know it is not going to be easy. I solicit for support from all well-meaning Nigerians, all my friends and well-wishers.”
While visiting the family at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, the wife of the Cross River State Governor, Dr. Linda Ayade, in company of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong, and the Director-General of the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu, described the feat as a sign of better things for the family.
She donated N1 million to the family and another N500,000 to another woman who delivered a set of twins on the first of January, 2017. She also donated an incubator to the pediatrics ward of the teaching hospital. The quintuplets, born on Monday morning weighed between 1.45kg and 1.75kg.
