One thousand and eight hundred women were empowered with twenty thousand Naira each from the fourteen local government areas of Zamfara state to enable them to do business.
The First Lady of the State of Zamfara, Aisha Mohammed, said that under her office, the Women’s Empowerment Scheme had adopted a new policy that would encourage beneficiaries to register and collect their monthly financial help at the same time, unlike before, when they would wait a while.
The administration of Governor Bello Mohammed launched the Women’s Empowerment Program, under the Office of the First Lady, to provide self-dependent protection and financial support to poor rural women, especially the victims of banditry in Zamfara State.
During the disbursement of the funds in the state capital of Gusau, the first lady said that the Women’s Empowerment Scheme had implemented a new policy in which recipients would automatically register and collect their income.
The first lady appreciates the assistance of Governor Bello Mohammed, her husband, to ensure the program’s success in the state.
Rabi Ibrahim, Chair of the Zamfara State Women’s Empowerment Scheme, highlighted the different accomplishments of the scheme in the past year and the effect on poverty reduction among women in rural communities in the state.
The Women’s Empowerment Scheme was described as praiseworthy by the Secretary to the State Government, Bala Maru, as it has contributed to a great extent to reducing hunger, unemployment, and state insecurity.
