We’re rehabilitating roads, restoring trust in government – Tinubu

By Ukpono Ukpong

President Bola Tinubu has said that his administration is not only rehabilitating roads but also restoring the trust of Nigerians in governance.

Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima during the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated 10-kilometre Aguma Palace–Radio Nigeria–New Market Road in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT, Tinubu described the road as more than a physical project, it is a symbol of inclusion, dignity, and renewed faith in public service.

According to the President, for too long, communities outside the city centre have felt disconnected from progress, watching from afar as development bypassed them.

“They have watched their dreams of inclusion delayed by excuses, and their hopes depart by shifting priorities. But we are here to rewrite that history,” he said.

He emphasized that the road’s rehabilitation was not a top-down decision but a product of community participation.

“What makes this moment even more remarkable is that the projects we are unveiling were not imposed from above. They were nominated by the people of Gwagwalada themselves.

“This is the kind of democracy we believe in. The one that listens, one that responds, and one that delivers.” He said

President Tinubu noted that the transformation taking place across the FCT is the result of deliberate reforms and bold, people-focused policies. This is as he praised the FCT Administration, under Minister Nyesom Wike, for expanding the territory’s revenue base and reinvesting it into infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development.

“This road is a corridor of dignity for the market women, a path to safety for our school children, and a road to prosperity for the hardworking trader. The days of empty promises and abandoned projects are behind us.” President Tinubu said.

He described the ongoing transformation in the FCT as a “quiet revolution” made possible by those who refuse to accept mediocrity.

“I thank him for proving that disruption is not a threat to order, but a requirement for progress. Mr. President is mightily proud of your accomplishments,” he added.

While lauding Wike for his fearless, hands-on leadership, the Vice President noted that the impact of the road will go beyond transportation.

“This road will do more than ease movement of people and goods. It will make this community safer. It will improve access to education and health care. It will unlock economic potential, especially for rural dwellers,” he said.

He reiterated the administration’s commitment to inclusive development, saying that development must not be a privilege for a few but a right for all.

“We are determined to ensure that development is not a privilege reserved for the few, but a right enjoyed by all,” he affirmed.

Addressing the traditional leaders, especially the Aguma of Gwagwalada, Tinubu extended appreciation for their support and patience throughout the execution of the project.

“Your wisdom and your support have been the bedrock of this progress. This project belongs to the people of Gwagwalada,” he stated.

He concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to projects that speak directly to the needs of the people.

“We are focused on creating an enabling environment for businesses to grow, for families to thrive, and for communities to prosper,” the President said.
