Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is looking to use German striker Lukas Podolski as a backup in his attempts to land Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, according to report.
Podolski is currently on loan at Inter Milan after falling down in the pecking order at the club and it seems as though his future lies away from north London.
With his deal expiring in 2016, the club will have to move the World Cup winner on this summer if we’re to get any fee for him instead of losing him on a free the following year.
According to the report, Wenger has been interested in Calhanoglu for a while and has had him scouted this season, but his position makes any deal unlikely.
A natural playmaker, the Turkish international will find it difficult to get into the side given the wealth of options they have in those positions, which is primarily the reason why Podolski was struggling for game time.
