We’ll support Gov Bindow to succeed-CAN chair

Leadership of the newly inaugurated Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Adamawa State chapter and the state government have reached an agreement to work together for peace and progress of the state.

They arrived at this accord today when the state CAN leadership, led by their Chairman, Archbishop Dami Mamza, came to Government House Yola, on a courtesy visit.

Governor of Adamawa State, Senator Mohammed Umar Jibrilla Bindow, reminded the CAN leadership of the need to work together with their Muslim counterpart to bring about lasting peace and progress in Adamawa State.

He stressed that, “religious bodies are not political parties but could collaborate with the present administration in terms of offering meaningful advice and prayers.”

In a short remark, Deputy Governor, Martin Babale, said the unity among Christians is further strengthened by the manner the new executives have engaged not only the Christian communities, but Muslims as well.

Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Archbishop Stephen Dami Mamza, said the purpose of the visit was to introduce the new leadership and commiserate with the governor and people of Adamawa state over the recent bomb blast in Mubi and the killings in some communities of Numan local government area.

He appealed to the governor to use his office to revive the Inter-religious council in the state considering the important role being played by the body in the areas of peace and unity among adherents of the two religions.

The CAN Chairman told the governor that, shortly after assumption, CAN leadership has visited the Adamawa State Muslim council and held discussions, with the aim of enhancing unity and peace in the state.
