Welder Molded My Masterkey for N500 – Robbery Suspect

Some say life starts at 50, but for 50 year old painter, Tokunbo Ojo, who chose to go into robbery as a means of livelihood, life at 50 may well being in prison.
Daily Times gathered that Tokunbo, who specialises in robbery at parties and big ceremonies, uses a master key to open and loot people’s vehicles without their knowledge.
He was however arrested by operatives attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State Police Command following an intelligence report of his many escapades.
The Ekiti born father of two who operates a one man squad was alleged to have started his criminal act as a local 419 in 2013 before he ventured into full fledge robbery in Lagos.
It was learnt that the suspect had made a whooping sum of N7 million on one of his operations at a campaign rally in Abeokuta where he also made away with other valuables as phones and laptops.
The suspect, who reluctantly spoke with Daily Times, attributed his actions to his addiction to cocaine. “This whole way of life started two years ago while I was still working as a painter. It was one Mohammed Grima, a customer I worked for that introduced me to cocaine. I became addicted to it and was always in need of money to buy more at every point in time.
“In order to keep up with the demand for more money, I went into local 419 with a gang of four. We had a ring leader who was an herbalist, and acted as having solutions to people’s problems through which we swindled them.
“But the proceeds from this weren’t not enough to sustain my addiction. It was at the joint where we go to buy the cocaine in Oju Inu area that someone told me about using master keys to rob. I contacted a welder who molded the master key at the rate of N500.
“And that was how I started robbing, opening people’s car at parties, weddings, burials, naming ceremonies, generally any place with large turnouts of people. Usually when I open the vehicle with the master key, I steal all the valuables inside the car, like laptops, phones and monety, jus anything that I can easily sell off.”
On his most profitable operation where he was alleged to have made 7 million Naria, the suspect denied making such sum and narrated how he spent the monies he made. “On the allegation that I made 7 million naira where I went to rob in a car at a campaign rally in Abeokuta Ogun State, it is not true. I only made N3. 2 million from that operation and that was my and spent the other one million naira on drugs.”
Was his family suspicious of his business?
“It was when I bought the car that my wife became suspicious; she inquired where the money was coming from and I told her I had invested in a very profitable business.”
Detectives at the Special Anti-robbery Squad say they are still investigating to track down as many who are into similar vices in the state.
