WASTE MANAGEMENT TASK FORCE ARRESTS 40 PERSONS FOR ALLEGED WASTE DUMP IN ASABA NOSA AKENZUWA, ASABA

As part of its efforts to curb indiscriminate waste dump in Asaba, Delta State, especially along the median of major roads, the task force under the state Waste Management Board have arrested and tried 40 defaulters who could not provide evidence of registration (payment receipt) with the approved Private Sector Participants (PSPs) in a sanitation mobile court for alleged indiscriminate waste dumps.
The operation, tagged “operation show your PSP receipt” which began at Nneamaka Street, opposite Federal Medical Center (FMC), first gate, off Nnebisi Road, and extended beyond Ibusa Junction and adjoining streets, led by the Chairman of the board, Ogbueshi Douglas Okolotu, saw the arrested and arraigned of suspected defaulters yesterday.
The arraigned suspects who were apprehended in their residential apartments and business offices could not provide evidence of sanitation compliance; either by providing registration receipts or payment receipts issued by the PSP members saddled with the responsibility to manage generated waste effectively in their zone.
Briefing newsmen, the Executive Director and the Member representing Delta North Senatorial District on the board, Mr. Jude Onya said that the “operation show your receipt” is a continuous exercise, adding that the task force in charge of the enforcement of sanitation compliance and enlightenment campaign must implement every sanitation laws to the letter.
Mr. Onya blamed the suspects who refused to register with PSPs for the effective evacuation of their filth, for the littering and dumping of refuse in the environment, especially, at the median and along the roads in Asaba and its environs.
He warned that anyone who fails to show evidence of the state environmental sanitation laws’ compliance, by providing his/her receipt to the taskforce must be arrested and arraigned for defaulting sanitation laws.
According to him, the state government will no longer tolerate the unauthorized places, adding that the task force officers will be posted to strategic positions in Asaba and its environs to arrest defaulters of sanitation laws.
