Wamakko charges politicians, wealthy Nigerians on citizens’ employment

Former Sokoto State governor and member of the National Assembly, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko (APC- Sokoto), has urged politicians and wealthy Nigerians to focus on the welfare, security, comfort of the citizens and assist by providing jobs.

The lawmaker made the plea in a statement in Sokoto on Monday, by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Bashir Mani.
Wamakko’s message came at the end of the screening and aptitude test for applicants of the Computer Graduate Recruitment Exercise which he facilitated.

The lawmaker, who was represented by his Director of Administration, Alhaji Al-Mustapha Alkali also advised wealthy persons never to waiver in uplifting the citizens in preference for priority attention to their selfish interests and desires.

“We, either as politicians, appointed officials or wealthy individuals should always strive to accord top priority to the provision of the basic needs for the people.

“As politicians, the interest of the electorate should always take centre stage and not just to disappear, only come back to the electorate when we need their votes,’’ the lawmaker said.

He pledged his “unwavering commitment” to continue to assist the youths to be educated as well secure more employment opportunities for them at all levels.

Wamakko, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education, commended the applicants for their orderliness while the test lasted.

He gave an assurance that the youths would be equally and justly treated.

Mr John Ayeni, Head of Operations, Infotrak Research and Consulting Firm, the outfit that conducted the aptitude test, said that over 270 applicants wrote the test.

Ayeni promised that the test would be marked fairly and all the successful candidates subsequently invited for interview.
Some of the applicants commended Wamakko for the gesture and expressed optimism that they would be successful in the exercise. (NAN)
