Vigilante Group promise support for military against insurgency

The Vigilante Group of Nigeria has pledged it would continue to support the military in the fight against insurgency and terrorism especially in the North East.
Commandant General of the group, Usman Muhammad Jahun, stated this during an interview recently.
Jahun who said that the group which is seeking to legalise its existence through a bill standing before the senate has excelled in other areas of operations include combating cattle rustlers, arresting Kidnappers, pipe line vandals, armed robbery and other crime and criminality within the rural communities, said that its partnership the government at all levels have improved greatly.
He explained that the group which presently boasts of 12,000 officers nationwide has been able to restructure its leadership structure at both the federal and zonal levels, adding that  it has also commenced adult literacy program for non-literate members of the group as part of its manpower development.
According to him, the institute located in Abuja, Enugu, Kano,Jigawa, Katsina etc will soon be extended to other  parts of the country.
“We have also succeeded in the introduction of security related courses like Counter Terrorism, Paralegal studies, Security Management and Technique for Diploma & Certificate Programs, and it is a Federal Government approved institution, hence we have a good turn up of students”. he posited.
Jahun also commended international agencies including DFID, J4A, American Embassy in Nigeria and Centre for Law Enforcement Education for their contributions and support for the group.
