University Don laments 1.3m out of school children in Bauchi

Education have been described as ‘ ingredient for every success in life’ as such, parents should take it upon themselves as a responsibility to ensure that their wards are given the required knowledge for the betterment of the society. A Professor of Accounting and Finance at Bayero University Kano, Prof. Kabir Tahir Hamid who made this assertion said parents are the major stakeholders in ensuring that their wards get quality education. The University Don added that the recent surge in the number of out of school children is as a result of the failure of parents to prioritise their children’s education. Professor Hamid blamed parents for the high number of out of school children in Bauchi state. Hamid who was speaking to journalists at a ceremony held in his honour on Saturday in Bauchi to celebrate his promotion to the rank of Professor of Accounting and Finance by Bayero University, Kano said “these days if you are not educated, you will practically struggle with everything in life. From white collar jobs to entrepreneurship to anything, you need education to succeed. That’s why I am encouraging my younger ones to take their education serious”. Professor Hamid who said the secret of his achievements in are commitment, determination, hard work, respect for elders and good relationship called on the youths to understand that life is all about quest for one to develop his or her own goals as well as strategies to ensure its achievement. “Whether we like it or not, the most important thing in life is for one to be able to stand on his or her feet so that when the parents or guardians are no longer around you can be able to help yourself as well as extend helping hands to other members of the society”, the University Don advised. He however urged the state government to provide the necessary facilities to enable students learn in conducive environment. On the recent suspension of ASUU strike,the Professor Hamid thanked the Federal government and ASUU for bringing to an end the lingering strike explaining that it will mitigate the challenges faced by students and lecturers in Nigerian public Universities. He called on stakeholders in the education sector to put all hands on deck in order to revamp it from the Kindergarten, Primary, secondary and to the University levels.
